It used to cost $2.00 per person per day to enjoy the camp for Methodist Church members and $3.00 for non members, then because of the economy they did away with the charges altogether to do what they were started for in the first place, to be a gathering place for children and families surrounded by nature in a lovely area originally known as: Show Me the Way. kd

Camp McCall, Golden Valley NC, 2013 Camp Projects

2013 McCall projects remodel lower bath for accessibility for all clients & work day. 

Remodel work not completed as of this day 6 26 2013. Window fans 2 be installed, lights 2 be replaced & ceiling painted. Bath remodeling has been progressing since February & is almost completed. Check McCall's Web Page for work projects contact person.

N.C. Work Day Troop 197 Glen Alpine split, hauled, unloaded, stacked, carried wood for winter usage for campers this winter season. Raked & moved leaves 2 a site unseen. Cut undergrowth around Water Falls Lodge & cleaned Chapel In The Pines. June 15 2013.

McCall presented open house in April over 60 people attended mostly youth. Youth Leaders reported all had a great experience hiking & studying Jesus water world presented by Don Price from Pleasant Grove UMC Forest City N.C.

Carolina Cross Connection preparing for 2nd of 4 weeks of mission work & fellowship in Rutherford, McDowell & Burke Counties beginning Sunday June 30th. App 60 campers in attendance 1st week.

Worship service with CCC Friday nights bond fires, communion, & fellowship they have with each other plus the uplifting they receive from clients they work for is 3 hrs every person should experience once in there life time. I have been blessed many times by this experience.

Open House at Daylily Farm

Polkville, NC -- Saturday, June 15th was the annual Open House at the Slightly Different Nursery that specializes in hybrid daylilies. These plants are drought tolerant, sun resistant, and overall great performers in the garden. Paul Owen is the owner and the genius who cultivates by cross pollination with existing hybrids to create a new and unique daylily The new cultivars can take between 6-8 years to mature to the point that they can be registered and one can even name their own daylily. What a great gift.... better then naming your own star and then you can't find it in the Milky Way! Saturday was glorious weather for roaming through the thousands of plants set in one of the most scenic parts of North Carolina. The backdrop of mountains and lovely breeze was heaven. Paul's family (from all over the globe) gather annually to help him prepare for this event. Everyone chips in with getting the plants in perfect condition for visitors. The old blooms are carefully removed the day before so that the next bloom will stand out perfectly and show itself off in peak glory on the big day. They start opening up in the early morning and the fields come alive with color. He ships them worldwide to avid gardeners and collectors of hybrids. Community Club Meeting May 20th, 2013

The GVCC Club will meet on Monday, May 20^th, at 7:00 pm at First Broad Church for a regular pot luck dinner meeting. Chris Lovelace will be our guest speaker, he's just completed the Leadership Rutherford Program and has some things he'd like to share with us.

Third Thursdays, Cherry Mountain Fire Department and Washburn Outreach Center of The UMC will host a satellite office for the Rutherford County Clinic FREE Meds program for people without insurance who meet income levels.  Bring ID, Medications, proof of address, and proof of income sources
