The Golden Valley Community Club met on September 17th, 2012 and enjoyed a presentation by local author Joe Epley who came out to the clubhouse.
Joe Epley, of
Epley Writes has published a new book, "A Passel of Hate", a novel, about the tumultuous times in the territories, during the Revolutionary War when neighbor faced off against neighbor as the Patriots and Loyalists were split, in this area of Western Carolina.
Deitra Lovelace put it very succinctly when she said, “Imagine, you’re just washing the dishes, going about routine chores and suddenly your house is surrounded by troops.” And that’s how it was for the people in this area, where neighbors might live a mile or more from one another. Soldiers would come upon the farms suddenly.
That’s where Epley’s book takes you, on a journey back in time, where a boy and a girl, a neighbor and his wife, a brother and brother, were separated by events and loyalties were divided in this area, as much or more than any other. Epley’s book is available through his website and at
Amazon.com .
